And yet, we have the Fast and the Furious franchise where the first installment was very much that template. For instance, I would say it’s a bad idea to start a billion-dollar franchise based on Point Break but with cars. It’s who stands beside you.In film school, you learn that there is no such thing as a “bad idea,” only bad execution.
It highlights the beauty and fear of fire. Shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, the film looks beautiful. The firefighting sequences are action-packed and tense although there are a few cheesy lines of dialogue. The film is well written and carefully directed by Joseph Kosinski, from a screenplay by Ken Nolan and Eric Warren Singer and it is a very realistic drama about real, human events that anyone can relate to. They’re clearly spent time together getting to know one another in preparation for this film and have created a sense of brotherhood between them - perhaps not from the outset when Teller’s character Brendan is something of an outcast as he’s not the clean cut guy that the others are as he has a past as a drug user and petty criminal, but once he’s become one of the team the sense of genuine camaraderie is obvious. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and Jeff Bridges is an impressive cast for any film and here they work together well, producing very solid performances. As most of us run from danger, they run toward it – they watch over our lives, our homes, everything we hold dear, as they forge a unique brotherhood that comes into focus with one fateful fire.
